In The Past: Morzine was originally a farming and slate mining village that has a history that stretches back a long way.

Now: Still a traditional market, mountain town keen to preserve its gentle pace of life and authentic Savoyard charm. In the heart of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine is spread along a valley, intersected by a large river gorge and is an ideal point from which to set out and discover a wealth of possibilities.

Climate: Morzine is situated between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc which creates a microclimate of weather fronts bringing extra precipitation to the area. It's the same snow record as Val D’Isere and even during the warm winter seasons Avoriaz tends to hold onto a great snow cover. The Les Gets side is mainly pasture land and only requires a low level of snow for decent skiing and snowboarding conditions.

It is on the French / Swiss boarder just south of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman), and just under an hour from the Italian boarder (via the Mont Blanc tunnel). The best way to get here is to fly to Geneva then hire a car or pre arrange an airport transfer. Although it is also fairly straight forward to drive from the UK.

Winter: Morzine is the central resort in the Portes du Soleil, so you can make it your base then go explore Europe’s largest international ski area. Morzine itself offers a great variety of pistes for all abilities as well as boasting some of the best off-piste areas in the world. It is so easy to get from Morzine straight into Avoriaz which opens up the rest of the Portes du Soleil with huge ski areas and some truly awesome snow parks.
