Les Gets is situated between Geneva and Mont Blanc. Despite its fairly low altitude it still manages to maintain an excellent snow record year in, year out! The resort makes up part of the Portes du Soleil domaine which includes resorts such as Morzine and Avoriaz. Les Gets is well known for being a family friendly resort and is equally popular during the summer season. From Les Gets and its surrounding you can not only ski into Switzerland and back within the day but you have access to some of the most beautiful views of the region including clear views of the Mont Blanc. Les Gets sits at the bottom of the multiple slopes making it very possible in many cases to ski straight to your front door.
From its origins (in the 11th century), the village of Les Gets has had wood in its veins… The name “Les Gets” came from the local dialect words “gitte” or “giette” meaning the corridors used to send logs rapidly down the hillside. Well before tourism developed from winter sports, wood and water were the main resources for the inhabitants of Les Gets. They used different varieties of pine for building: from the main structure to chimneys, from partition walls to roofing tiles; everything was made from wood. It was also used to make kitchen utensils (spoons and buckets for example) and agricultural tools, such as forks, rakes, scythe handles and coffis. In the springtime the sawmills would operate, because at that time of year, the water volume is higher due to the melting of the winter snows. Today, the forests which cover 2/3 of the Commune are still a veritable livelihood, such as: A wood fired heating system supplying 12 Commune buildings, Sawmills which are still functioning, a tradition omnipresent in our architecture, crafts and heritage etc…
Skiing in Les Gets
Les Gets is excellent for beginner and intermediate skiers – The “Blanchot” circuit around the Les Gets area which follows only green and blue slopes is a popular day tour for families and leisure skiers. For the more advanced skiers access to the Portes du Soleil ski area means there are 650km of slopes at your fingertips!
Those hoping for a wild nightlife may have to look to neighbouring resorts like Morzine, but Les Gets itself offers plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes for more relaxed evenings out.
|Off Piste||Very good|
|Children||Les Gets is ideal for a family holiday and there are great child care facilities including a kids themed ski area complete with fur traders and Indians.|

In summer there is m.t.b. world class downhill mountain biking, cross country cycling, swimming, lake, parp gliding, parpenting, climbing, walking, hiking and so much more.|
Other Events In Les Gets This Season
VISIT OF THE FATHER CHRISTMAS’ CABIN FROM 21ST DECEMBER TO 3RD JANUARY 2014
It’s true, Father Christmas actually lives in Les Gets, but hush…don’t tell anyone. He and his faithful elves live together in their grotto, a log cabin in the middle of the enchanted forest high above the village.
Here, in this magic world, they work all the year making toys and presents for the big night, 24th of December. Over the years, Father Christmas has developed his Christmas routines. From time to time he pops down into the village with his elves for a bit of last minute shopping and to soak up the atmosphere. If you are very lucky, you might catch a glimpse of him as you stroll through the village over the Christmas holiday period, until the 30th of December. Many activities will be present for these two weeks of celebration : the village is buzzing, the atmosphere is warm, the sets are amazing, the choirs are featured. Everyone lives to the rhythm of Father Christmas and his elves.
As part of this event also find the Automaton museum celebrates Christmas on the 10 December.
